Lake Tahoe has long been renowned with the American cognoscenti for its matchless ski resorts, its majestic mountains, its abundant snow and its stunning Alpine lake (the largest in America). Skiing Lake Tahoe has to be one of the most unique winter experiences. This is also down to the fact that the resorts of South Lake Tahoe straddle the Californian / Nevada border (where gambling is legal). This has created entertainment that is legendary. It comprises of glitzy 'Vegas' casinos, buzzing nightclubs, and many bars and restaurants just oozing glamour.
The largest ski area of Heavenly is located along the shores of the Lake itself. This gives it spectacular views across translucent waters to the slopes and valleys below. The other Lake Tahoe resorts are easily accessible from here. Holidaymakers are spoilt for choice, with the many hundreds of combined pistes from Sierra at Tahoe, Kirkwood, Alpine Meadows, Squaw and Northstar. Driving between them for daytrips is a popular way of maximising ski variety. Overall, the skiing is challenging, with more than 500 runs to delight every grade of skier of boarder. The region is also unusually blessed with dramatic snowfalls of up to 15 metres every season. At the same time, the slope orientations means that most areas receive above average sunshine hours. What more could a skier/boarder want than this ultimate mix of sunshine, deep powder and groomed runs?

This welcoming, family run place is just a block away from the Nevada casinos, while the high speed 'Heavenly Gondola' is a short block away. The Driftwood café has a special discount for Virgin Holiday skiers and après-ski wallowing takes place in one of the two hotel hot tubs. Just 30 minutes drive to Sierra ski area, and 45 minutes to 1 hour drive to Kirkwood or Squaw Valley ski areas.
